I’m happy to share with you two videos today! They each contain part of a workshop Steve and I did a while back. It was a detailed study of the passage. I hope you check them out.

My first (I admit “knee-jerk”) response, in listening in on y’alls classes, was a combination of, “yikes, how often is this situation repeated, in the Bible, where what we know from the language, as we read it, we can’t take as read?”…And what does that mean for us, considering we have based our lives as disciples of Jesus on the principle that the Word is the Truth?
Yet then I follow with the thought that there has always been something not reconciling within my own mind and heart when passages like 1 Timothy 2 meet up with several accounts of women’s roles in leadership such as that of Phoebe(a deaconess) and Junia(considered an apostle, yet the translation uses a male form of the name!) or as in Paul’s obvious choice of words in expressing specific women as his “co-workers” in the ministry of the gospel.
So…I struggle with having the courage to consider what this ideal of “we may have missed the boat” in such a foundational understanding of ourselves…what it will mean in changing. I’ve adapted my fuzziness on this subject with the mindset of the nature of our creation…men’s job is to lead their family; women’s is to nurture. So…church, as a family, same roles? Not that simple!
*a note of who I am, in consideration of my thinking…I am a 52 year old single, never been married, and am a disciple now for 32 yrs.
Thank you Steve and Lisa!
Have lived with the discrepancies and inconsistencies in teaching for a whole lifetime. Continue to be strong and courageous, brave and humble, a light that draws us to the sacred romance.
Love you, Jeri
Having been a disciple for 36 years, I expected to find these videos more controversial, but so far everything has seemed very logical and in line with realizations I’ve had over the years.
One request: Is there any chance you could provide transcripts of the lessons for those of us who are hearing impaired, in light of the sound quality issues?
Thanks for all your love and service through the decades!
Thank you so much! I am hearing impaired as well and I will work on that!
